This was a group project to design public outdoor seating for Wentworth's campus. My partner and I noticed that Wentworth would benefit from a more enthusiastic environment. We wanted to encourage Wentworth students to socialize outdoors by making seating fun and enjoyable.
The concept that we chose to pursue brought movement into outdoor seating in that it was a flat plane made up of individual wood blocks strung together with rope. It was firm enough to support people in whatever position they decided to sit, but still had that flexibility and movement.
Several rounds of iteration were necessary to come up with this "works-like" model. We needed to figure out what was necessary to make the seating structurally secure.
